Police rescue man atop water tank

A 37-year-old man who had climbed an over-head water tank in an attempt to commit suicide, was rescued by the Police this morning.

The man has been identified as Arun Kumar Rao, a resident of Gayatripuram in city and a painter and carpenter by profession. Accusing his wife and in-laws of relentless harassment, Rao climbed the water tank close to the DC office in an attempt to commit suicide, it is learnt.

But some members of the public, who noticed a man standing atop the tank, alerted the Lakshmipuram Police who rushed to the spot and brought down Arun Kumar.

Arun Kumar Rao alleged that his wife, when he had married 8 years ago and her parents were pestering him to transfer his properties and he had decided to take this extreme step as he was unable to bear the harassment any longer.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Lakshmipuram Police, who rescued him, have recovered a bottle of petrol which Arun Kumar had carried along with him.
