Poor quality of streetlight poles

March 11, 2026

Sir,

A couple of years ago, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) replaced old streetlight poles with taller poles to install LED streetlights. While the new lighting has improved road illumination, the quality of the poles used appears to be questionable.

Within a short span of time, most of these poles have started rusting and the paint has peeled off completely from most of the poles.

Streetlight poles are expected to last for many years in outdoor conditions and such rapid deterioration raises serious doubts about the quality of materials used and the standards followed during installation.

If not addressed in time, these rusted poles could pose a safety risk to the public. The MCC should conduct a thorough inspection and take immediate corrective measures to ensure public safety and adhere to proper quality standards in civic works.
