Rally in protest of anti-farmer policies to mark the event

Mysuru: The 84th birth anniversary of late farmer leader Prof. M.D. Nanjundaswamy (Prof. MDN) will take place at Centenary auditorium in Channapatna of Ramanagara district on Feb.13 at 11.30 am.

Announcing this at a press meet at Jaladarshini Guest House here recently, KRRS President Badagalapura Nagendra said that marking Prof. MDN’s birthday, a rally will be held in protest against the anti-farmer policies of the Government. Noting that although Prof. MDN is not among us today, the KRRS is striving hard in keeping his ideals alive by relentlessly taking up the cause of farmers.

Preceding the rally, a massive procession will be taken out from Channapatna’s Mangalpet Circle to the Centenary Bhavan, where several farmer leaders will address the gathering, he said and added that thousands of farmers from across the State are expected to take part in the event.

Continuing, Nagendra said that the KRRS will stage a demonstration in front of the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner’s office at 11 am on Feb.19, seeking dropping of Mysuru-Madikeri NH-275 road project.

Questioning the need for a new Mysuru-Madikeri Highway when there is already Mysuru-Bantwal National Highway passing through Madikeri, Nagendra said that the new Highway will destroy fertile lands, crops and houses. Terming  the new Highway as an eco-disaster, he said that the KRRS was severely opposed to the project and the Government should drop the project (NH-275) in the interests of the farmers and the environment.

KRRS office-bearers Lokesh Raje Urs, Hosur Kumar, Sargur Nataraj, Hoskote Basavaraj, Netravathi and others were present at the press meet.
