Prof. S.K. Ananda Thirtha Memorial All India Chess Tournament: Sharma Dinesh wins title

IM Sharma Dinesh of Uttar Pradesh won his final round against K. Senthil Maran (TN) to clinch the title with 8 points from nine rounds in the Open category, on the concluding day of the Prof. S.K. Ananda Thirtha Memorial All India FIDE Rating Rapid Chess Tournament 2017, conducted jointly by MDCA and Hoysala Karnataka Sangha at their auditorium here yesterday.

The winner took home a cash prize of Rs.20,000 and a trophy. Four players FM Karthik Ventaraman (AP), Ram S. Krishnan (TN), FM Dutta Joydeep (WB) and P. Saravana Krishnan (TN) tied with 7.5 points each, but based on their tie-break scores they secured the places from second to fifth. They were handed over a cash prize of Rs.15,000, Rs.10,000, Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 6000 along with a trophy. Winners in U-15, U-13, U-11, U-9 (boys & girls) were also given trophies.

The prizes to the winners were given away by Dr. P. Krishniah, In-charge Director, Dept. of Physical Education, UoM and Kanthraj Raj Urs, Managing Director, Urs Kars, Mysuru, Varchasvi S. Shankar (Managing Director, V2soft, USA) and N. Sudharshan, President, MDCA.
