Pt. Ganapathi Bhat Hasanagi to perform on Sunday

May 10, 2019

Felicitation to art patron K.V. Murthy

Founded in the year 2004, Swara Sankula Sangeetha Sabha is doing yeoman service in the field of Hindustani Music in our city by not only arranging periodic concerts in the style, but also helping run a Music School for young students.

Dr. M.S. Bhaskar (a leading Neuro Surgeon and himself a Hindustani vocalist) is the President of this Sabha and has the very able support of Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath in running this organisation. Another well-known leading Hindustani Musician Instrumentalist (Sarod), Pt. Rajiv Taranath is also responsible for brining the rich and fragrant flavour of this style (basically Northern) of music to the Royal City which   has helped in enlarging the volume of appreciation for this style among the local citizens, who throng to the Sabhas to listen and appreciate.

However, the present concert being organised by Swara Sankula Sabha is by the well-known vocalist Pt. Ganapathi Bhat Hasanagi. The concert will be held at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road on Sunday (May 12) at 6 pm.

Pt. Ganapathi Bhat is a front ranking vocalist in his own field with varied roles as a singer, teacher and organiser of this style. He is a leading disciple of Pt. Basavaraj Rajaguru and has the guidance of another famous vocalist Pt. C.R. Vyas.

Pt. Bhat has given concerts in almost all the leading Music Sabhas in the country and abroad and has acquired a large number of music enthusiasts who throng to his concerts all over. In addition to the above, he has established a Music School (Gurukula) in Hasanagi where young musicians are getting the training.

In the present concert, Pt. Ganapathi Bhat is accompanied on harmonium by Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath and on tabla by Pt. Viswanath Nakod, both stalwarts in their own right.

As a good gesture, the Sabha is honouring K.V. Murthy who has carved a rich niche for himself in promoting music in particular and other forms of art in general in the city of Mysuru. All the music-lovers and enthusiasts of Mysuru are welcome to this concert.
