Mysuru, Sept. 3 (MTY&NNN)- Government Colleges are striving hard to improve the quality of education and hence, they must focus on students achieving their aims, said Department of Collegiate Education Regional Joint Director Prof. R. Moogeshappa.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 2019-20 Cultural Programmes of the Maharani’s Arts College at its premises here on Aug.28 and said that earlier, the moment people heard about Government educational institutions, they would shy away and instead preferred to go to private educational institutions as they thought that they provided better quality of education and also treated it as a matter of pride to put their children in such institutions.

However, now-a-days due to stress on the quality of education at Government Colleges and steps taken to improve them, students are coming back in large numbers to such institutions.

The strength of girl students in Maharani’s Arts, Science and Commerce Colleges have gone up tremendously and so it is the case with other Government Colleges when compared to private colleges, he noted with satisfaction and added that along with the quality of education, better facilities have been provided.

The students should have definite aims and for this they should seek guidance from  their teachers. The confidence that the parents repose on them should not be belied by the students, he said.

Lot of grants are being released to Government colleges and all efforts are being made to produce a conducive atmosphere to the students for learning.

The teaching and non-teaching staff and the students must work hard for the development and progress of the college, he said.

Rangayana Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam said that the students should not confine themselves just to studies but also involve themselves in cultural activities and only then can there be an all round development. It is good to see the importance  being given to non-academic activities in Maharani’s College, which the students must make use of, she added.
