Quest Academy celebrates Annual Day with ‘The Merchant of Venice’

March 7, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: The timeless brilliance of William Shakespeare came alive on stage as students presented a captivating adaptation of the classic play ‘The Merchant of Venice’ during the Annual Day at Quest Academy in Subhashnagar, Mysuru.

Written between 1596 and 1597, ‘The Merchant of Venice’ remains one of Shakespeare’s most widely read and performed works. Set in the cities of Venice and Belmont in Italy, the play follows the story of Antonio, a merchant and Shylock, a moneylender, whose bond leads to a tense courtroom trial.  Through its powerful characters and dramatic moments, the play explores themes such as justice, mercy, friendship and prejudice. The famous courtroom scene reminds audiences that compassion and understanding often hold greater value than rigid justice.

The play has a long history on stage. It was recorded to have been performed before King James I at the royal court in Whitehall Palace, London, in 1605. Since then, it has continued to be performed in theatres, schools and institutions around the world, inspiring generations of audiences and students.

Carrying forward this rich theatrical tradition, the students of Quest Academy brought the play to life as part of their Annual Day celebrations. The production was directed by Anamika, whose guidance helped the students confidently step into their roles and present the story with enthusiasm and expression.

The event was organised under the leadership of Veena Mani, the School Principal. Merlin assisted with arranging stage props and creating the setting for scenes, while Melody worked closely with students on voice modulation, helping them deliver their dialogues effectively.
