The Taluk Administration will launch a two-month ‘Raita Bandhu’ campaign under MGNREGA scheme, aimed at promoting the use of vermicompost among the farming community. In a press release, Mysuru Taluk Panchayat (TP) Executive Officer (EO) M.S. Ramesh said that vermicompost, popularly known as Black Gold among farmers, is a sustainable manure which increases soil fertility.
Pointing out that it has been planned to start 25 vermicompost manufacturing units in all Gram Panchayats (GPs) of the taluk, he said that the farmers can build a vermicompost tank during the two-month campaign. Noting that the cost of constructing a vermicompost tank of area 5.5 x 2.7 x 1.0 mts is estimated at Rs. 27,000 and that of tank of size 3.6 x 2.7 x 1.0 mts is Rs. 21,000, he said that eligible beneficiaries can utilise this opportunity for the construction of the vermicompost tank.
Stating that interested farmers can walk-in to their respective GP and submit the application, Ramesh said that farmers can also file their application through ‘Kayaka Mitra’ mobile app.
