Re-name AIISH as Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Institute of Speech and Hearing

October 2, 2018

Sir,

Apropos the letter from C.N. Srinath, Director, Dhvanyaloka, Bogadi Road, Mysuru, under the caption “Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar’s Birth Centenary: Make A Beginning”  in SOM dated Sept. 12. It is heartening to read the concern shown by Srinath in this regard.

But his comment that “the Palace family at least should have evinced some interest in the context” needs some clarification though it is difficult to discern what exactly he means by “Palace Family” !

For the record, Maharaja was born on 18.7.1919. Thus his Birth Centenary falls on 18.7.2019. Hence the talk of celebration may be a bit premature.

Yet a few organisations in Mysuru celebrated Maharaja’s birthday this year as part of centenary year event. I was a speaker in one of them which was held on 20.7.2018 at Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI)  premises wherein Legislators S.A. Ramdas and L. Nagendra were chief guests.

As a matter of fact Ram-das promised to get a commemorative stamp and coin issued by Government of India by next year. One of the requests put forth by me to him  was to use his good offices to get the name of All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) changed to Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Institute of Speech and Hearing as he was instrumental in starting this Institute at Mysuru.

Let me assure that the daughters of late Maharaja will certainly celebrate the Birth Centenary of their revered father in a befitting manner next year.
