A Concert at Mysore Vasudevacharya’s House in city on Sunday
Mysuru: Vid. T.P. Vaidyanathan, one of the senior-most artistes in the musical lineage of Sangeeta Kalanidhi Mysore Vasudevacharya, will be presenting a vocal recital on Sunday, the 2nd December, at the renowned composer’s house in Agrahara (New Sayaji Rao Road). He will be accompanied by Geetha Putty (vocal), Vid. C.N. Thyagaraju (violin) and Vid. G.S. Ramanujam (mrudanga). The about 100-minute concert, scheduled for 11 am on Sunday, is open to all music lovers.
Vid. T.P.V., now 84, has been a torch-bearer of ‘sangeetha parampare’ of Sri Vasudevachrya. A disciple of Vid. B.K. Padmanabha Rao, one of the frontline students of Sri Acharya, Vid. T.P.V. has served the cause of music for over six decades in Chennai and Mysuru. He is an A-grade artiste of AIR and DD and has been featured on National Programmes.
While in Chennai, he has served as lecturer in the famed Kalakshetra, the organisation to which Sri Acharya contributed a lot during his last days. Vid. T.P.V. has produced musical features on the compositions of Sri Mysore Sadashiva Rao and Mysore Vasudevacharya too. It is understood that Vid. T.P.V. is in possession of unique versions of some of the Acharya’s kritis, taught to him by his guru, who was being tutored by Sri Acharya during the period those kritis were composed. Geetha, who accompanies Vid. T.P.V. in the concert, is one his senior disciples. She is a B-High vocalist of the AIR. Vid. Thyagaraju and Vid. Ramanujam are leading artistes of the city, having accompanied most frontline performers in the field.
