Mysore/Mysuru: MLC Shantaram Siddi, who also spoke at the book launch event in city last evening, highlighted the significant role of tribal communities in freedom movement.

“Regrettably, the invaluable contributions of tribals to freedom struggle have often been overlooked or omitted by historians. It is imperative that we educate younger generation about the uncelebrated tribal heroes who made immense sacrifices for our country and recognise the pivotal role tribals played in the fight for independence. The revolutionary movements organised by tribal communities were characterised by their extraordinary courage and unwavering dedication.”

“Tribal communities are increasingly being acknowledged for their cultural heritage, including their exquisite art and craftsmanship. They have also played a pivotal role in the promotion, protection and conservation of environment through traditional practices. We must aim to raise awareness about the active role of tribals in the freedom movement,” Shantaram emphasised.

“The heroic sacrifices made by tribal people during the struggle for independence underscore their unwavering commitment to the cause. It is the responsibility of all Indians, especially the present generation, to familiarise themselves with these untold stories of struggle that have been absent from the pages of history,” he said.
