‘Rotary Namana Award’ presentation

Mysuru: Namana Kalavedike and Rotary Midtown Mysore have jointly organised a programme at Ganabharathi on Adichunchanagiri Road in Kuvempunagar at 7 pm tomorrow (Nov.27) to present ‘Rotary Namana Award-2019.’

Mridangist and President of Karnataka Music and Dance Academy Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma will present the award to Layavidya Pratishtana founded by mridangist Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy.

Profile

Layavidya Pratishtana, the percussion academy, is the brainchild of Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy. He  is the son of Manjulamma and Lakshminarayana Sharma, a well-known Keerthanakara & Gamaka Vidwan. He is one of the leading mridanga artistes of India. 

Born in the family of musicians, he had his training in mridanga from renowned artiste Vid. B.R. Sridhar of Mysuru. 

Shivashankaraswamy has accompanied almost all the leading musicians and Vidwans of Karnatak Music. He has also given many performances in All India Radio, Dooradarshan including National Programmes, Sangeeth Sammelan and South Zone Music Concerts.

He has presented many programmes under the auspices of Karnataka Nruthya Academy. Hampi Utsav and other Sangeetha Sabhas. He has acquired widespread fame and appreciation in the field of percussion. 

Apart from this he is also a well known name in the field of Jugalbandi and Fusion. Shivashankaraswamy has toured abroad extensively. 

He has been awarded the Best Mridangam Artiste in Sangeetha Sammelan in the year 2002 conducted by Karnataka Gana Kala Parishat, Bengaluru. Ananya Foundation of Bengaluru awarded ‘Yuva Puraskara’ in the year 2008. 

Presently, Shivashankaraswamy is working as ‘A grade’ staff artiste in All India Radio, Mysuru. Apart from his busy schedule, he also takes time to teach aspiring students of percussion through Layavidya Pratishtana.
