Bengaluru: In some good news for Guest Lecturers, the State Government has hiked monthly salary for Guest Lecturers by Rs. 5,000. Announcing this after holding a meeting with leaders of Guest Lecturer Associations here yesterday, Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar said that at present, the salary of Guest Lecturers is the range of Rs. 26.000 to Rs. 32,000 as per their qualification and experience. Now the salary hike of Rs. 5,000 will equally benefit all the 10,600 lecturers serving across the State, he said adding that the Government will incur an additional annual expenditure of Rs. 55 crore.
Continuing, Dr. Sudhakar said that Guest Lecturers who have served for a minimum of 10 years will be provided a financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh upon retirement at the age of 60 years, for which Rs. 72 crore has been earmarked. The Government has begun the process of appointing 1,800 Guest Lecturers this year, he said adding that the Higher Education Department has sought permission of Finance Department for appointment of 6,000 more lecturers.
