Samithi urges Govt. to drop amusement park at KRS

Srirangapatna: Farmers and environmentalists have urged the State Government to drop the proposed idea of constructing amusement park (Disneyland) near Brindavan Garden terming it as unscientific.

In meeting conveyed by Zilla Raitha Hitharakshana Samithi at a guest house near KRS was attended by representatives of various organisations. Speaking on the occasion Dr. A.N. Yellappa Reddy, a retired Forest Officer and Environmentalist, highlighted about the damages that could be caused by amusement park stating that the proposal to construct the amusement park at a cost of Rs. 2,663 crore and handing over the management for 34 years to a private entity was a dangerous development.

“The project which is being taken up to boost the tourism sector will not only harm the safety of the KRS Dam but will also affect farming community surrounding the KRS dam. The project is not only anti-people but also anti-constitutional. The State Government must immediately cancel the tender process,” he said.

Later, in her address, Zilla Raitha Hitharakshana Samithi President Sunanda Jayaram said despite orders banning mining and other activities surrounding 20 kms radius of KRS Dam, the project to construct an amusement park was condemnable.

KRS Village Panchayat President G. Ravi Shankar, Farmer Leader P. Nanjundaswamy, Induvalu Chandreshekar, Boraiah, DSS leader M.V. Krishna, KRS Village Panchayat members K. Raju and others were present.
