Sir,
I wish to bring to the attention of the authorities of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) an important issue regarding road repairs in our city. Finally, after a harrowing past few months of facing the brunt of potholes in our city roads, ahead of Dasara, MCC has taken up the work of filling some potholes and resurfacing some major roads.
While this is a welcome initiative, it is unfortunate that many important stretches have been completely skipped. One such neglected road is the stretch from the SP Office Circle to Mahadevapura Road, which passes through the police quarters. This is not a minor lane but a vital link road. The road assumes further significance because:
1. A government school is located on this stretch, used daily by many children.
2. The city bus No. 161 to Gayathripuram passes through this road, serving hundreds of commuters.
3. It also serves as an important access road for residents of the area who are policemen who dwell in the police quarters.
Presently, the road is filled with several huge potholes, causing inconvenience to school children, bus commuters and residents. The potholes are so huge that even a village road looks better than this stretch of the road. Vehicles passing through this road can’t go without making a loud sound of the tyres hitting the deep potholes. It also poses risks of accidents, especially during rain. Also, after the rains, these potholes retain a large amount of water, making it a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
It is disheartening that while several less-used stretches were repaired, such a crucial road was ignored. Also, this road has been lying in neglect for the past two years
I urge the MCC authorities to take immediate action to repair and asphalt this road, as well as many other major roads in the city, without delay, ensuring safe and smooth travel for the citizens during Dasara.
