Issues notices to B’luru City Police Commissioner, Health Department Secretary and KSCA

Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the recent stampede incident in front of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and has registered a case. The Commission has also issued notices to the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, Health Department Secretary and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

A team led by KSHRC Acting Chairman Dr. T. Sham Bhat, Registrar Suresh S. Kogilgeri and Dy.SPs Sudhir M. Hegde and S.Y. Mohan, visited the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium yesterday and conducted an inspection.

Later, speaking to media persons, Sham Bhat said that a total of 11 people had died in the stampede incident while four others were still undergoing treatment at Bowring Hospital and Vydehi Hospital. “We have received information about Stadium gates not being opened on time and lack of sufficient ambulances at the spot. The Commission has filed two separate cases and notices have been served to Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, Department of Health Secretary and KSCA,” he added.

Stating that the State Govt. had announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for the families of the deceased apart from taking care of the medical expenses of those undergoing treatment, Sham Bhat said that the Commission, if required, would recommend the State Government to release                             additional compensation.
