Signature campaign against cow slaughter launched in city

October 11, 2017

Mysuru: Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt Seer Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji has said that  ‘Abhayakshara,’ a signature campaign has been launched in the State for banning cow slaughter.

Speaking at the ‘Goraksha’ meeting organised by Bharatiya Go Pariwar at Vishwesha Theertha Mantap in Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala premises here on Tuesday, the Swamiji said the campaign has set a target of 5 crore signatures. Already more than 10 lakh applications have been received seeking cow protection from Bengaluru division, he said.

Pointing out that Mysuru was the 17th district he was visiting, he said that the district has a population of 35 lakh and the application should reach every household. Also schools and colleges should take initiatives for the success of the campaign, he added.

Noting that cow slaughter had become a global menace, he said that over 36,000 slaughter houses have been functioning across the country post-Independence. Although several organisations have launched a movement seeking a ban on cow slaughter, the Government had done little for cow slaughter ban, he rued.

The Seer further said that while one form will be sent to the Prime  Minister, the other will be sent to the Chief Minister demanding a total ban on cow slaughter.

Mysuru District Brahmana Sangha President D.T. Prakash, Dr. Bhanuprakash Sharma, Panduranga Maharaj, Corporators M.V. Ramprasad and Nandeesh Preetham and others were present.
