Mysuru:‘Silk Fab,’ an exhibition-cum-sale of handloom products, has been organised for the first time at JSS Mysuru Urban Haat in Hebbal Industrial Area, Ring Road, Mysuru, from Jan. 5 to 18 between 11 am and 8 pm.
Sponsored by Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi, the exhibition-cum-sale is organised by National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) Ltd., a Government of India Undertaking. The expo will be inaugurated on Jan. 6 at 4 pm.
The primary objective of this event is to provide a wider market for handloom products created by Weavers and Handloom Co-operatives and to preserve these traditional crafts. The exhibition gives weaver families, who depend on this profession for their livelihood, the opportunity to showcase and sell their handwoven creations.
‘Silk Fab’ will feature products from over 60 weavers and artisans from across India. The exhibition will showcase exquisite handloom creations from over 17 States, including silk sarees and other handloom items.
Products on display at the expo include: Silk sarees and cotton sarees from Karnataka, Pure Kanjivaram Silk sarees, Tussar Sarees from Bihar and Jharkhand, Kanta sarees and Baluchuri sarees from West Bengal, Boutique sarees and cotton sarees, Banarasi silk and Chicken embroidery sarees from UP, Chanderi and Maheshwari silk sarees from Madhya Pradesh, Sambalpuri, Ikat and Bomkai sarees from Odisha, Pashmina shawls from Kashmir, Godwal, Kalamkari, Pochampally sarees from Andhra, Furnishing products from Haryana, Stoles and bed sheets from Manipur, Sarees and dress materials from Maharashtra and Rajasthan, Assam silk sarees and dress materials, Handcrafted items by skilled artisans.
