University of Mysore (UoM) Physical Education Director Dr. C. Venkatesh has said that sports and games help students maintain good physical and mental health.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Inter-College Men’s Volleyball, Throwball, Ball Badminton and Women’s Throwball Tournament, organised at JSS Arts, Commerce and Science College on Ooty Road in city recently.
“It is a challenge to manage stress and time for students in this modern life. With the help of sports and games, students can manage stress properly. Of late, students are not giving sufficient time for sports. This mentality should change among students. With the increased use of technologies, students are exposed to more stress. There is a lot of difference between using a mobile phone for one hour, reading a book for one hour and engaging in sporting activities in playground for one hour,” said Dr. Venkatesh and explained the importance of sporting activities to students.
JSS College Physical Education Director Prof. R. Murugeshappa, Chief Executive of JSS College Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Principal Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, Dr. L. Vinaykumar, Dr. A.G. Dharmesh and sports persons of various colleges were present on the occasion.
