State-level workshop on ‘Soft Skills’ held at St. Joseph’s First Grade College

Mysuru: The Department of Commerce and IQAC, St. Joseph’s First Grade College at Jayalakshmipuram, in association with the College Development Council of University of Mysore (UoM), had organised a day-long State-level workshop on Soft Skill Enhancement titled ‘Get Empowered; Get Employed’ at its premises in city recently.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. K. Mantelingu, Director of College Development Council, UoM. In his keynote address, he shared a remarkable story of a woman, who despite being a mother of two, pursued her dreams with determination and became a Police Officer. Through this story, he emphasised the power of motivation, effective time management and soft skill enhancement in overcoming life’s challenges and achieving success.

Rev. Fr. Edward William Saldanha, Secretary of Mysore Diocesan Educational Society (MDES), in his Presidential address, underlined the vital role of communication skills, especially in the field of commerce and business, stressing that such skills are as essential in today’s competitive world.

The technical sessions featured Speakers Dr. J. Lohith, IQAC Coordinator, UoM, Dr. Hemant Gupta, Sr. Assistant Professor, ICFAI Business School, Bengaluru and Prof. D. Anand, Professor, B.N. Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences.

The workshop was aimed to help students enhance communication skills, boost confidence, develop workplace etiquette, strengthen problem-solving and decision-making skills and gain a clear understanding of industry expectations.

Rev. Fr. A. Naveen Kumar, Treasurer of MDES, H.N. Chandrashekara, Principal, R. Shilpa, HoD and Vice-Principal, K.S. Nayana, IQAC Co-ordinator, teaching and non-teaching staff and students participated in the workshop.
