Mysuru: Sri Krishna Ganasabha has organised P. Kalingarao and Sugama Sangeetha Programme, under the direction of Prof. S. Mallanna, at Alwar Kala Bhavan, Gokulam 3rd Stage, 6 pm tomorrow (Feb.22). Poet Jayappa Honnali will be the chief guest.
Prof. Mallanna is a well-known singer. By profession, he was a teacher and worked at JSS College as Professor in English for 30 years. But his interest in light music has earned recognition. He has sung in more than 500 concerts.
Prof. Mallanna has adopted the style of noted singer Kalinga Rao and P.B. Srinivas. He is called Junior Kalinga Rao.
He has sung more than 100 songs in a workshop held in commemoration of Kalinga Rao.
Apart from singing songs from Kannada films, Prof. Mallanna has composed music for many songs written by noted Kannada poets.
He has given performance in local, district and National-level Literary Festivals. He has performed in USA and was part of ETV ‘Yendu Mareyada e Haadu’ and ‘Madhura, Madhuravee Manjula Gaana’ in Doordarshan, Bengaluru.
Prof. Mallanna is a recipient of many awards including Hoysala award, Rangacharalu award, Rotary Rajyotsava, Karnataka Kalasri award and recently Shishunala Sharif State Award.
Mallanna hails from Chamarajnagara. His father was a Drama Artiste. His wife, Premleela is a poet and a writer, known for chutuku sahitya. His daughter, Kavya and Kavana are good chess players.
