SWR Mysuru Division records growth trend in freight traffic

Mysore/Mysuru: Indian Railways is committed in ensuring movement of essential goods to reach throughout the country. Despite challenging circumstances of outbreak of Covid-19, wheels of Indian Railways keeps on moving.

Mysuru Division of South Western Railway (SWR) has registered an unprecedented growth of 1152 % in freight revenue of Rs. 59.95 crore during May 2021 as against the corresponding period of last year.

Mysuru Division has achieved an Originating Loading of 0.768MT in May-2021 as against of 0.082 MT during May-2020 by registering a growth of 836.59%.

Loading of Iron ore from Mysuru Division has shown a highest ever monthly growth of 0.678MT and a revenue of Rs.53.83 crore. First ever loading of Two Point Originating Combination in Newly Modified Goods (NMG) rake which contains two-wheelers from Kadakola of Mysuru Division and Tillers from Malur of Bengaluru Division. Business Development Unit (BDU) has captured new traffic of Sugar from Haveri and loaded 0.002 MT of Sugar to Navi Mumbai by fetching an additional revenue of Rs. 20.65 lakh.

The growth has been possible through continuous interactions and marketing efforts of the BDU constituted in the division to revitalise the freight segment in this critical situation.

Similarly, the parcel revenue has also witnessed an upward trend with the division grossing revenue of Rs. 16.15 lakh for the month of May 2021 in comparison to Rs. 5.93 lakh in May 2020.

The Division loaded its traditional commodities like iron-ore, petroleum products, cement, food grains like maize and sugar etc., from Stations — Sasalu, Ranibennur, Amravati Colony, Ammasandra, Chikjajur, Haveri and Hassan.

Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, appraised all Railway men and women to relentlessly strive for scaling newer heights in contributing to the efforts of the Government in providing succour to the needy. 

Rahul Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, SWR, Mysuru Division, said, this has been possible by the special efforts of the Officers and staff, despite the lockdown imposed due to pandemic in keeping the wheels of transport moving.

He reiterated that all necessary measures were in place for sustaining the pace in freight operations in the coming months, according to a press release from K. Anoop Chand, Public Relations Officer (PRO), SWR, Mysuru Division.
