Tahsildar orders demolition on Oct. 30; seeks Police security

October 24, 2025

Mysuru, Oct. 24 – Acting on multiple encroachments along the Dewan Poornaiah Canal in Mysuru, the Mysuru Taluk Tahsildar has ordered the demolition of an illegal construction at Bogadi.

The demolition, prompted by a complaint from the Revenue Inspector, is scheduled for Oct. 30 in Mysuru Taluk, Kasaba Hobli, Survey Number 127/1A.

According to the Tahsildar’s order dated Oct. 21, 2025, the unauthorised construction, measuring 100×40 sq.ft, was being carried out on behalf of Bisilu Maramma Temple on land where the Poornaiah Canal passes.

The order noted that, despite repeated notices, the construction continued unabated, which constitutes an illegal encroachment on Canal property.

The complaint was filed by G.M. Mahadeva.

The Tahsildar’s order has been forwarded to the Saraswathipuram Police Station to ensure Police protection during the clearing of the encroached space on Oct. 30.

Spanning 22 kilometres and passing through Bogadi, Basavanahalli, Dasanakoppalu, Maratikyathanahalli, Hinkal, Madahalli, Huyilalu and other areas, the Dewan Poornaiah Canal is a vital public asset. It serves as the main feeder canal bringing fresh water to Kukkarahalli Lake from lakes in Bogadi and the surrounding areas.

Comprehensive eviction process soon

Taluk Revenue officials told Star of Mysore this morning that over 50 major encroachments have been detected along the canal up to AIISH.

“In 2023, the Mysuru District Administration conducted a comprehensive drone survey to identify encroachments, compiling a detailed list spanning private entities, public associations, and even cases involving legitimate Government grants. This latest notice is just the beginning. A comprehensive eviction process will follow, with prior notices issued to all identified encroachers,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, a case has already been filed before the Special Court for Prohibition of Land Grabbing, alleging unauthorised occupation of Government land.

The case pertains to properties bearing Survey Nos. 97, 96, 103, 104, 105, 107, 121, 119, and 120 of Bogadi village, falling under Ward No. 20 of Mysuru City Corporation. The complaint states that across these survey numbers — including stretches along Poornaiah Canal, Bogadi 2nd Stage 1st Main Road, Bogadi (North) to Vijayanagar 3rd Stage, and parts of Vijayashripura — approximately 21 kilometres of Canal and adjacent ‘kharab’ (non-cultivable) land, totalling around 46 acres, have been encroached.

Unauthorised residential constructions have allegedly been carried out on this Government land.
