Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore Open Forum has organised a talk on ‘Kannada Literature & Language Politics in India’ by Prof. Purushottama Bilimale at 10.30 am on June 24 (Saturday) at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 1st Phase, Mysore.
Dr. Purushottama Bilimale hails from Dakshina Kannada and obtained his Post Graduate degree in Kannada from the University of Madras and his Ph.D from University of Mangalore. After teaching in Nehru Memorial College, Sulya, University of Mangalore and Kannada University of Hampi for several years, he became the director of American Institute of Indian Studies, New Delhi. In 2015 he became a professor of Kannada studies in the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and continued till his retirement. He has published several books including his memoirs and essays on Dalit issues, Folk culture of the Karavali region, Caste systems etc. and has given lectures at several prestigious Universities.
He will talk about the diminishing importance being given to Language Studies. Many spoken languages are in the throes of extinction. The richness and culture of Indian languages need to be highlighted as they will guide in successful interaction with people speaking different tongues in the international arena.
