Traditional wrestling tournament captivates enthusiasts

The traditional wrestling tournament organised by Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Garadi Sangha as part of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Jayanti at Sahukar S. Channaiah Sports Complex at Doddakere Maidan witnessed a sea of wrestling enthusiasts from Mysuru and surrounding districts flocking the venue to watch the breathtaking wrestling bouts with a total 102 wrestlers (51 pairs) both men and women from Mysuru and Mandya vying for supremacy.

Inaugurating the wrestling tournament, University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath remembered the contributions of Mysore Wadiyar to traditional wrestling and hailed Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Garadi Sangha for organising the wrestling tournament to encourage young wrestlers.  Citing the need for much more encouragement for wrestling, Prof. Lokanath said that the University would ensure to extend its support to the sport.

Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Foundation President Dr. M. Lakshminarayan, Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Garadi Sangha President C. Basavaraju, Vice-President D. Nagendra, General Secretary Yajaman Pailwan S. Mahadev and others were present.

Results

In the women’s division, S. Haripriya of Fakir Ahmed Saheb Garadi won against M.N. Unnathi of Mandya Women’s Wrestling Association; Sinchana of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Akhada beat M.K. Monika of Mandya Women’s Wrestling Association; Chaitanya of Bannur Hattu Janagala Garadi beat Varalakshmi of Mandya Women’s Wrestling Association and G.P. Sadhana of Mandya Women’s Wrestling Association beat M. Deeksha of DYES Sports Hostel, Mysuru.

In the men’s division, Chandu of Melapura Hattu Janagala Garadi beat S. Darshan of Sri Veeranjaneya Garadi of Bogadi; L. Prakash of Sri Veeranjaneya Garadi, Bogadi beat Anup of Naganahalli Hattu Janagala Garadi; N. Mahesh of Sri Veeranjaneya Garadi, Bogadi beat J. Manojkumar of Ittigegud Hattu Janagala Garadi; Channappa of Sri Veeranjaneya Garadi, Bogadi beat K. Yeshwanth of Ramanjaneya Garadi, T. Narasipur; G. Bhyrappa Nayaka of Besthara Kalanna Garadi beat Y. Hemanth Kumar of Sri Veeranjaneya Garadi, Bogadi; Poorvik Gowda of Mandya Zilla Garadi beat Mubarak Pasha of Ghousianagar Hattu Janagala Garadi; S. Vageesh of Fakir Ahmed Saheb Garadi beat Pranav Gowda of Mandya  Zilla Garadi.
