  • Father dies of heart attack hours after daughter commits suicide
  • Girl takes extreme step as she was not admitted to private college

Malavalli: Tragedy struck a family on Father’s Day yesterday (June 20) when the father died of heart attack while preparing for the last rites of his daughter who had committed suicide in the morning.

The incident took place at Talagawadi village in the taluk yesterday morning.

Details: K. Raju (65), a farmer from Talagawadi village, had four daughters and a son. T.R. Bandavya (17) was his youngest and favourite daughter. Bandavya’s three sisters and brother were pursuing their education at a private college.

Bandavya, who wanted to become a doctor, was a meritorious student, who had scored 93 percent in her SSLC exams. As her father Raju was having financial problems due to COVID-induced lockdown, he was unable to get Bandavya admitted to a private college as per her wishes and had instead admitted her to the Government PU College at Bannur.

As a result, Bandavya went into  depression and it is learnt that she was also facing problems in attending to online classes for 2nd PUC. Depressed over this, Bandavya hanged herself to the ceiling fan in her house on Sunday morning.

Cursing himself for not being financially sound to get his daughter admitted to a private college which had resulted in her untimely death, Raju was preparing for the last rites when he collapsed on the ground. Though he was being rushed to Malavalli Taluk Hospital, he is said to have breathed his last midway.

Malavalli Rural Sub-Inspector Ravikumar, speaking to Star of Mysore said that no case has been registered in this regard.
