Mysuru:  A two-day International Workshop with the theme ‘Performing Arts as Voice of the People,’ began at Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal (KSGH) Music And Performing Arts University   premises on JLB Road, Lakshmipuram in city this morning. 

The workshop has been organised to mark the Decennial celebrations (Tin Anniversary) of the University.

Speaking after inaugurating the workshop, renowned Music Director and Lyricist Hamsalekha said that music is an important part of the world. Noting that finding a script to music and bringing it to the forefront is not an easy task, he opined that  Arts and Music play a key role in uniting the hearts of millions of people in the country and spread the fragrance of love and warmth.

Observing that the entire world was  driven by Dharmocracy over 3,500 years ago,Hamsalekha said that with the passage of time, this has now turned into Democracy and Arts and Music have emanated as the humanitarian products of Democracy. Maintaining that global recognition is important for artists and musicians, he called upon them to develop a humanitarian mindset on the lines of Vishwamanava.

Hamsalekha released the University’s Quarterly newsletter Kalavani on the occasion.

Former Rangayana Director Janardhan (Janni),  who was the chief guest, underlined the need for artists and musicians to dedicate their body and mind for the sake of arts. He also said that Arts must contribute in it’s own ways to ensure the well-being of everyone, as envisaged in the Indian Constitution. 

University Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakote presided.

The two-day event will conclude tomorrow.
