Mysuru: The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), which at last got recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) last month to run 17 non-technical courses for a period of five years from 2018-19 to 2022-23, is likely to get recognition for the remaining 15 Open Distance Learning (ODL) courses within a week, said KSOU Vice-Chancellor  Prof. D. Shivalingaiah.

Speaking to Star of Mysore in this regard yesterday, he said that he along with Registrar Ramesh and UGC Coordinator Dr. N.G. Raju had gone to New Delhi on Tuesday and in the meeting there apprised the authorities regarding the facilities to run the remaining 15 courses.

Through a power-point presentation they gave a clear picture to the officials about the time-table, lesson books, teachers and examination and evaluation facilities along with the documents that the KSOU had, he said.  

The UGC, after being convinced with the presentation and the information provided along with the documents and understanding the seriousness of the present context, the officials gave a positive response to accord recognition to start the remaining 15 courses from this year itself, said Prof. Shivalingaiah.

“Later, we met Governor Vajubhai R. Vala yesterday in Bengaluru at Raj Bhavan and explained in detail regarding the meeting with the UGC officials for which he (Governor) promised to see that he will try to get the recognition after speaking to the UGC officials,” the VC said.

“Based on these developments we are confident that we will get permission to start the remaining 15 courses,” he added.

The following are the  ODL programmes that the UGC is likely to give  recognition within a week: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), Master of Business Administration (MBA), LLM (Master of Law), Master of Arts (Sanskrit), M.Sc (Biochemistry), M.Sc (Chemistry), M.Sc (Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics), M.Sc (Computer Science), M.Sc (Geography), M.Sc (Information Science), M.Sc (Mathematics), M.Sc (Microbiology), M.Sc (Physics) and M.Sc (Psychology).
