Mysuru: “The beauty of Mathematics is without numbers there is no Mathematics,” opined Dr. R.K. Vanishree, Assistant Professor, Maharani’s Science College for Women, Bengaluru.
She was speaking at the inauguration of University-level workshop on “Mathematics Practical for V and VI” organised by the Department of Mathematics, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, recently.
Expressing her satisfaction over the idea of introducing practical in a theory-oriented subject like Mathematics, Dr. Vanishree said that it is an opportunity extended for students to understand the logic of theory well.
Basic knowledge of computers is sufficient to execute the practicals, said the Speaker. Sharing her experiences of having a similar approach in Bangalore University, she pointed out that so far more than 50 practical experiments (Practical programmes/Manuals) have been prepared.
This concept of practical for Mathematics is being implemented by the University of Mysore for the first time and the present batch of students are privileged to have practicals as part of their curriculum.
The workshop was conducted to facilitate the conduct of practical for teachers of Mathematics in Mysore University. In all, 95 participants attended the workshop.
Principal Dr. S. Venkataramu also spoke. Dr. Vanishree, Dr. Suguna B. Uralegaddi and Prof.S. Anuradha of Maharani’s Science College for Women, Bengaluru were the resource persons. Dr. Mohanakrishnan – Dean (Academics and Organisation Development, Mahajana Education Society), Dr. S.R. Ramesh, CEO and Academic Advisor, Mahajana First Grade College, were present.
