When‌ ‌Will‌ ‌Casinos‌ ‌Go‌ ‌Back‌ ‌to‌ ‌Normal?‌ ‌ ‌

May 20, 2021

The pandemic has caused a lot of industries to change and adapt or even halt for extended periods of time. As the world slowly gets back to normal with the introduction of vaccines across the globe, industries can begin to make arrangements to return to normality.

This is especially true for brick-and-mortar casinos that have been inactive for long periods. The following article will take a look at some select locations around the world and shed further light on when casinos will go back to normal in those places. Some of the countries where casinos are most popular will be included but if your jurisdiction is not included, this information is readily available online.

Casinos Around the World

United Kingdom

Nationwide vaccinations are progressing well in the UK meaning that Boris Johnson’s roadmap has been able to advance without disruption thus far. On April the 8th, many gambling establishments like sportsbooks, bingo halls, and casino reopened their doors for the foreseeable future.

Any gambling venue that isn’t yet open will be allowed to do so from May the 17th and all restrictions are set to be lifted from June the 21st. With that in mind, it may be time to brush up on how to play casino games today!

United States

The US is a little bit more complicated than the UK what with each state having different rules. Many of the states have made provisional plans for when certain sectors can reopen their doors including the casino industry.

Many states including Texas, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, and Indiana are already open for the most part. In other states like Minnesota, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, reopening is set to occur in May.

Sates that are planning to reopen industries like the casino industry in June or later include California, Washington, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, and Vermont. Lastly, some select states such as Oregon, New Mexico, and Michigan have not set dates but instead have criteria that must be met before full normality can resume.

Canada

In Canada, approximately a third of its gambling industry has already been reopened but there is still a long way to go before everything is back to normal. Quebec’s ten gambling establishments are yet to reopen whilst only nine of Ontario’s 27 have restarted business. At the time of writing, it is still unclear when many of these casinos will reopen to the public.

Australia

From June the 1st, certain casinos will be reopening in Australia. This will initially be restricted with limited capacity and loyalty club members being invited back exclusively, at least at first. Later on in the month, further casinos are expected to open up with capacities increasing from June the 21st for many. If you live in Australia expect most casinos to reopen at some point during the month of June.

Germany

Many German casinos have already reopened with the 11th of May being the magic date. Strict guidelines will be in place to start with but these are set to ease in the coming weeks. Other casinos across the country are expected to follow suit if they haven’t already reopened.

France

French casinos have been able to open at their own discretion since December 15th 2020. Restrictions have been in place to prevent the spread of infection in the establishments and these are expected to be slowly eased in the near future along with the rest of Europe’s reopenings/restriction-easing.

Rest of the World

There will be a fair amount of variation across the world depending on the state of the pandemic in those regions. However, in general, most casinos are beginning to reopen now or have at least made plans to reopen within the coming months. It is expected that by European summertime, most casinos across the globe will have reopened their doors to the public in some capacity.

Things are constantly changing however so it is important not to take any dates as gospel. Should the pandemic worsen with a new strain of COVID creating complications, any set dates are likely to be pushed back. For now, it is likely that whether you are in the world, brick-and-mortar casinos will be making a timely, albeit initially restricted, comeback in the very near future. If you’re planning to go to a casino soon, make sure to take proper precautions and obey the strict guidelines for your and others’ safety.
