Gold ornaments worth about Rs. 2.5 lakh recovered

Mysuru: N.R. Police have arrested a 28-year-old youth on charges of stealing valuables from the house of an old couple and have recovered gold ornaments weighing about 85 grams and worth about  Rs. 2.5 lakh from him.

The arrested youth has been identified as Asif Khan, a resident of Shanthinagar in city.

During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed that about six month back, he had approached the old couple saying that he was collecting donations for a Masjid and took them into confidence.

About two months ago, Asif, who made sure that there were no other persons in the house of the couple, went there and stole the gold ornaments which was kept in the almirah. Based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered the stolen gold ornaments from him.

DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe and N.R. Sub-Division ACP Umesh G. Shet supervised N.R. Inspector T. Ashok Kumar and staff Ramesh, Manjunath, Mahadev and Krishna in the nabbing and recovery operation.
