Bengaluru: In a fresh initiative to enhance the quality of Science education, the Government has decided to upgrade 60 select Government PU Colleges to Model Colleges.
With this new initiative, the Department of Education aims to correct the prevailing perception about the quality of Science teaching in Government PU Colleges.
These Model PU Colleges will help realise the dreams of thousands of economically weaker students who have been deprived of Science education due to their inability to pay exorbitant fees at Private Colleges.
The Department plans to start these Model Colleges with the PCMCS (Computer Science) combination in the forthcoming academic year. The upgradation of Government PU Science Colleges is being undertaken at a cost of Rs. 500 crore.
Facilities available
In each upgraded PU Model College, the first phase of upgradation will include laboratories, UPS systems, digital libraries, furniture and building painting, with an amount of Rs. 9.8 lakh already deposited in the bank accounts of the respective Colleges.
Later, other facilities such as smart boards, computer lab equipment, coaching materials and other necessities for a Science College will be provided with additional grants from the Department.
The PCMCS combination is being introduced in Model PU Colleges in addition to the existing PCMB combination. To teach Computer Science in these colleges, computer lecturers with less workload from other colleges will be deputed by the respective DDPUs.
Additionally, special coaching will be provided to students to prepare them for CET, NEET, JEE, AEE and other competitive examinations.
