Alliance candidate to challenge Pratap Simha

March 20, 2019

Mysuru:  With JD(S) conceding the Mysuru-Lok Sabha seat to its alliance partner Congress, the battle lines have been drawn for the Mysuru-Kodagu LS seat, which is currently represented by Pratap Simha of BJP.

Pratap Simha, who was a little known face when he entered the fray in 2014, went on to win the seat defeating A.H. Vishwanath who was then with the Congress.

Simha is most likely to be renominated by the BJP, which is expected to release its list of candidates in a couple of days.

As far as Congress is concerned, former MP C.H. Vijayashankar is the most likely candidate, as he has the strong backing of CLP leader and former CM Siddharamaiah, who hails from Mysuru. Incidentally, Vijayashanakar had won twice on a BJP ticket in 1998 and 2004. But in 2014, the BJP fielded him from Hassan, while bringing Pratap Simha to contest from Mysuru.

Vijayashankar quit BJP ahead of last year’s Assembly elections and joined Congress. In 2014 LS Polls, Simha secured 5,03,908 votes, followed by A.H. Vishwanath of Congress who bagged 4,72,300 votes and Chandrashekaraiah of JD(S) who managed 1,38,587 votes. There were 13 other candidates in the fray, including from AAP and BSP.

Pratap Simha, who won by a margin of over 30,000 votes, had bagged 43.45 percent of the votes polled then, with Vishwanath getting 40.72 percent and Chandrashekaraiah 11.95 percent.

The Mysuru-Kodagu LS constituency has eight Assembly segments — NR, KR, Chamaraja, Chamundeshwari, Periyapatna and Hunsur in Mysuru and Madikeri and Virajpet in Kodagu. Out of the eight Assembly segments, four are currently held by the BJP (KR, Chamaraja, Madikeri and Virajpet), while JD(S) has three Legislators (Periyaptna, Hunsur and Chamundeshwari) and Congress just one (NR).

With Congress-JD(S) signing seat-sharing pact, BJP will have a tough task on its hand to retain this important LS seat. But the Lok Sabha polls are entirely different from Assembly polls and BJP is hoping that the electorate will retain its faith on the party this time too. Incidentally, JD(S) which has a strong voter base in the district, has never won the LS polls.

Now that the Congress has got the seat as per the seat-sharing deal, it is to be seen whether JD(S) votes will get transferred to Congress. As far as BJP is concerned, the party is relying on the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the work done by MP Pratap Simha over the past five years.

In the past, Congress has won 13 times and BJP three times here. In any case, it will be a keen contest this time, with Pratap Simha likely to take on Vijayashankar of Congress.

1 + 1 = 2, but Congress Votes + JD(s) Votes Total Votes for Congress. It does not work like arithmetic.

This election will be between Hate Monger vs Gentleman.

  4. Raju says:

The tolerant and democratic party used the police to beat up and arrest the Techies working in muktinational companies, who were shouting slogans like “Modi, Modi, Bhaarath maata ki Jai! ” Anybody who supports Modi will be considered Congress as hate mongers!
Just a news flash! CONGRESS IS very close to loosing minority status in Telangana! Congress Mukth Bnarath not by BJP but by Ghatbhandan one state at a time!

    • Hegde says:

Isn’t it so cheap to use BJP patron in disguise of techies to raise intimidating slogans and then cry foul?

    • syed matheen says:

      Dear Mr, Raju.

They had an intention to intimidate congress workers and president, so that it can be publicized in media as a mockery. As they were in Karantaka and a peaceful city like Bangalore they are alive, if they done same in kerala with other parties like CPM, their photos would have been hanging on walls.
Yes, everyone has the right to express their view in democracy, but it doesn’t mean you can trespass and preach bible in temple. Techie’s support BJP and Modi good for them and let them continue to do it, but you cannot trespass in others program and be a cause of non sense, just to create ruckus and get media attention.

You are so right! These Hindus don’t know how to live peacefully with other religions in democracy! Unfortunately some of tge techies lost their job because as per their company policy they can’t continue after an arrest! Why CPM in kerala, if a similar incident happened under emergency, tgey all woukd have lost tgeir balls! So, now that they are labelled as BJP workers, until they find a real job, they can regret their action at home ! Hindus should be taught that they cannot celebrate killing of terrorists, army action on anything that the minority feels their kinship with! As Kumarswamy was saying, when you celebrate Air strikes and killing of terrorists, some of us feel that some of our brethren are killed and it may turn in to frustration ! Hindus have no way of understand it! Everybody knows Congress is corrupt to the core and Rahul is the paragon of moronic stupidity! But yet, we see him as a guiding light of democracy even though we know he will be dumber than all the leaders in the entire world And corruption is going to return 10 times larger that levels we have seen since INDEPENDENCE ! But That is the price we pay to save democracy!

          Dear so called Jacob,

First be prompt in mentioning your name, don’t be like our leaders whom we call FEKU. I believe you have balls in your sockets, do not behave as if you have a ball missing. Coming to your Air strikes, as per military, more than 13 surgical strikes were happened since 2000 to 2019, how many of them your heard and how many movies came afterwards ?? Using military for political mileage is condemned, do not forget we won 2 wars and you know who were ruling that time, but no one used it as a tool to win elections. Military admirals directs government and brought it to election commission, not to misuse their courage for political gains, it is shame for government.
You boast on what you have done in your office and for people, do not hijack others achievements.
