Modi’s march of victory: Here is the checklist for five years…

May 25, 2019

The result of this 2019 election, compared to the previous one, clearly indicates that it is an inclusive mandate where even minorities, specially ladies, have supported Narendra Modi

The whole world loves the winner, failure is an orphan. Today the whole world loves Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi is an orphan. So also those of the Mahagathbandhan, an alliance of 21 regional parties and ginger groups arraigned against Modi. The ones discarded and deserted by the voters are H.D. Deve Gowda of JD-S in Karnataka; N. Chandrababu Naidu of TDP in Andhra Pradesh who was routed in the Assembly polls as well and Mamata Banerjee of Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. The saying ‘Pride goes before the fall’ applies to these leaders very well.

The acrimonious way Naidu was behaving towards the last phases of polling — meeting leaders of the Mahagathbandhan, going to the Supreme Court and the Election Commission — challenging the validity of the EVMs, was appalling. His total rout in the polls in his own State seems like an act of retribution by Goddess Nemesis as a punishment for his sinister, evil designs against Narendra Modi.

This massive victory of BJP under Modi’s leadership reminds me of Rajiv Gandhi who in December 1984 had won a landslide 411 seats in the House of 542. Needless to say, at that time the sympathy factor of his mother Indira Gandhi’s assassination was working for him.

But the victory of Narendra Modi is incomparable to all earlier victories of political parties because Modi had neither the Dynasty nor a Party of over 100 years old nor any sympathy factor working for him for a victory of this magnitude. In fact, at the individual level, Modi had only disadvantages. He is from a backward community. He belongs to a poor chaiwala family without elitist education.

It is, therefore, not surprising that the Members of Lutyens’ Delhi and Khan Market Gang spoke about Modi in a derisively despicable manner as if he is an untouchable. Which was why, Modi was called a ‘Neech’ and fit only to sell tea like he was doing in his younger days by the Congress honchos. Personal attacks on Modi was so acrimonious, it went beyond the point of decency. They brought in his late father, his aged mother and did not spare even his wife. This does not indeed behove well for the Nehru family and its coterie. But at the end, providence seems to have played its role and Modi had his revenge with this massive victory.

The leaders of  Congress and its allies could not match Modi’s popularity in 2014. Later, much as they would try to diminish his popularity during the first five years in Office, they could do nothing. Rather Modi has become more popular now in 2019 than when he was first elected five years ago. The result is here for all to see. Probably, all those Opposition heroes, who spewed venom and hurled abuses at Modi since 2014, now have to eat their own words, suffer indigestion and deal with him for the next five years.

The result of this election, compared to the previous one, clearly indicates that it is an inclusive mandate where even minorities, specially ladies, have supported Modi.

However, here is a checklist of problems that Modi should  address and resolve in his second term if he were to leave a legacy behind for history as a ‘Brave Prime Minister of India.’ They concern the security of the country, integrity of the country (remember the Tukde Tukde Gang?), J&K and developmental projects, National Polices on Health, Education, Law and Order.

To certain sections of our  people, the Constitution is the only Holy Book of India. But then, a Holy Book is never amended; neither a verse is added nor deleted. But our Constitution has been amended 103 times; sometimes for sinister reasons and sometimes for the good of the country. Therefore, we cannot call our Constitution as a Sacred or a Holy Book. At best we can call it as the ‘Mother of all Laws’ of this country. It is possible that when we say ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ it is like saying, “Victory to the Mother of all Laws of Bharat, that is India”!  A Magna Carta of a kind — a document constituting a fundamental guarantee of rights and privileges for “We, the people of India.” Therefore, Modi should be allowed to do whatever is contemplated in our Constitution, even under the Directive Principles, by the Opposition and his own Party.

Be that as it may, here is the checklist for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep him busy for the remaining five years of his term:

  1. Building of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The fact that BJP did not make this an issue in this election will not absolve BJP, in its second term in Office, from delivering its promise on the temple.
  2. Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 (NRC).
  3. Triple Talaq Bill: The Bill makes all declaration of talaq, including in written or electronic form, to be void (that is, not enforceable in law) and illegal.
  4. Sending corrupt politicians and businessmen who cheated our Banks, to jail. Modi had said in his election speeches that he had already brought these accused persons near the prison gates and the unfinished task will be completed if he is elected. Now that he is elected, he must keep his words.
  5. Prosecuting corrupt Government Officials: At present, Government permission is required to prosecute Government Officials against whom FIR on corruption charges are filed. It is learnt papers related to these cases are pending with the Government for years. If permission is given and they are prosecuted, it will send a proper message to all corrupt Officials.
  6. Terrorist activities: Quick and severe action should be taken against those indulging in terrorist activities without playing vote-bank or communal politics.
  7. Finding a final solution to J&K problem. Immediate decision should be taken to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with India by removing the two Anti-Secular and Anti-National Integration Articles in the Constitution — Article 370 and 35A. India does not need either Pakistan or Hurriyat’s permission for this. Let us deal with PoK later or not at all. This will make India a genuine Secular country. What Secularism are we talking about now when J&K enjoys Special Status among all other States of the country simply because it has Muslim majority? And what kind of National Integration are we talking about when Indians cannot buy property in Jammu and Kashmir per se?
  8. Resettle all the Kashmiri Pandits, who have mercilessly driven away from their original home and hearth, in their Home State Kashmir.
  9. Common Civil Code: Secularists, who swear by the Constitution, should be made to realise that it is a Constitutional obligation for the Government and Narendra Modi should make it a reality.
  10. Bring back Black Money, no matter I do not get my Rs. 15 lakh you promised in 2014!

The list published is just a wish list, and reflect the problems the country has been grappling with since independence, that is 7 long decades! I can easily predict that most of the wish list items above will be there long after Modi has gone. Indian leaders never solved problems which run deep into the very heart of the country, and Modi is not an exception. Regretfully, while China which emerged from the foreign rule about the same time- a few years earlier may be , has marched on to become a superpower which can shape the world politics, India , even with its massive population has remained a mere third world country The author is reminded about this situation so that his imagination does not run riot!

  2. strangeworld says:

The checklist born out of delusion. J and K issue is with the UN when Nehru went to the UN. India is not even a permanent member, and even Russia will be against changing the status quo. Corruption is interwoven i to the fabrics of India, and the country cannot shake it out of the system. Hence, items 5 and 10 are meaningless . The author should wake up and see the relity , that is India today, a country overrun by corrupt politicians and administrators.

  3. manava says:

It is a scandal that sewage of Varanasi is let into holy Ganges, and pilgrims take their dip in this sacred river surrounded by floating faeces. Modi has not fixed Ganges cleaning , and he talks all other nonsense. These polluted Ghats by sewage is in his constituency! Just shameful

  4. A. R. Char says:

Did ‘Manava’ ever visited Kashi? My wife and I were there at Kashi and Kumbhamela during the past year. We are an NRI couple and we were scared to visit those places after reading lots of negative and scary articles like that of ‘manava’). However, we were curious to visit Kumbhamela (more from tourist perspective than any religious reasons). Both of us were Hindi dropouts and we were going to a Hindi heartland. We were amazed at the services and help we received from numerous ordinary people. A Special Police person negotiated for us to get an auto from Prayag Junction to our Tent city, another auto took us around Kumbha mela, another helped us to on a boat to get to Sangam proper and everyone was very helpful.

Now, coming to the cleanliness part. We took a private boat and travelled up and down on Ganga. It was clean from any visible garbage. We cannot say it was drinkable, but that take efforts of all communities upstream. Ganga Arathi during the evening beats any Disney show. For Rs. 300/- ticket, you can have a very good Dharshan of Lord Vishveshwara without standing in line for a long time. Inside the Temple also, it was very clean.

Now, they are making a lane to connect the Temple to Ganga shoreline. When it is finished, it will be a beautiful setting.

The reason for my long letter is to give a first hand picture to your readers who may get a bad opinion Kashi from writers like ‘Manava’ who definitely has not seen Kashi in a long time (if he has seen it at all).

    • Rajiv says:

No, we mortals have to visit Benares to find out if it is so clean by travelling to Benares! Many others who post here don’t have that need they get their facts from their devjne source who communicates them at conscious and subconscious levels by transmitting the knowledge. This nonsense has been circulated that Clean Ganga project is a failure by Rahul and his gang! If it was true Modi would not have dared to contest from Benares unless he is using EVM manipulation! Earlier, spreading that lie had a purpose, to promote Congress! Now, Benares people have responded ! Currently, this project headed by nitin gadkari who is a very clean and efficient politician! So the person who says people are bathing with floating shit is only floating in the information pool his masters have0 provided!

    • manava says:

@Mr Char. You are really pathetic, if you have not seen the large sewage pipe through which Varanasi sewage gushes out;unlike you , I walk along the banks of Ganges in Varanasi. The banks too need cleaning up, as the dirt and debris there get into the river. I do not take the fancy boat trip. I have no need for police to negotiate anything for me, for I have no fear of visiting Hindi heartland, even though I live in a country where the public do not carry guns; unlike you I take the dip and see sewage effluents floating around me. But then, You must be one conceited US-based techie as they all have singular ignorance of the environment any way. Have you seen a clean river? Where? I guess, do not tell me in the Disneyland Florida!
Finally shame on your poor grammar: It should be: ” Did ” Manava” ever visit Kashi? If you are ignorant of this simple grammar usage, taught in high school, you are sure to be ignorant of the said pollutants let into Ganges.

      • manava says:

I should add, I visit Varanasi at least once in 2 years, as I have relatives there. I know the place well. Suffice to say, I live, work and happily settled in a country in the West. No need for me to boast that I am a NRI, as perhaps I was one decades before @Achar found those shores!

  5. manava says:

@Rajiv You sound as stupid as your namesake who married a bar girl called Sonia. You make it to sound as though some one is supporting Congress and blaming Modi. You Indians are all corrupt to the core: politicians, administrators and the people: the lot. You need to read the scriptures, if you have Sanskrit knowledge, which I am sure, you don’t, to know the sanctity of Ganges You Indians have polluted it beyond recognition! Shame on you all!!

  6. Rajiv says:

You called us “YOU INDIANS.?” That explains! Which brothel in you were born In Pakistan or Bangladesh . .?

  7. manava says:

You seem to run a brothel using your sisters, it appears. Your language speaks by itself. You Indians, means just that, does not mean one belongs to Pakistan. Enjoy your brothel ownership .

  8. starngeworld says:

@Rajiv. As a poster said, you seem to have the brains of Rajiv Gandhi, when he dated Sonia, a barmaid! If one is not an Indian, then one could be a Singaporean or Srilankan where there are many of Indian-origin but are not Indians. Your lack of brain cells count makes you think of Pakistan, where they do not care for Holy Ganges! What a dullard, you are!! You seem to know brothels well, as a customer?

  9. invincible says:

Hello Rajiv. You must be very ignorant not to know that there are second generation men and women born in Canada, Australia, USA, Britain and Europe whose parents were Indians migrated to these countries. They call themselves as Canadian , Australians etc.. Your post reeks of abuse, but you have not added anything to the debate. Me, a Canadian (of Indian extraction) can address you as ignorant Indian, as you seem to have no idea that why Modi, even after 5 year has not so far taken initiative to clean up the filthy Ganges ,a river in his constituency visited by people all over the world. There seems to be no real effort in this direction, and simply blaming previous government does not help, as the current government is in charge now of India’s destiny. You argument hence is spurious. The river is polluted, and there are many articles about this, if you cared to search the Internet.
