5 MAIN REASONS IT’S TIME TO ENCOURAGE SPORTS EDUCATION IN COLLEGES

September 14, 2021

Sports education has never been more crucial especially at a time when the world is facing ever-increasing challenges. To be honest, the pandemic has started conversations that should’ve happened a while ago – especially conversations around mental health. Schools and colleges had to be shut, and the many benefits of sports for college kids were abruptly halted when everyone had to retreat into their homes to escape the disease. Now more than ever, sports education has to be emphasized. But perhaps we could start by reminding ourselves why sports in schools is important in the first place.

  1. Sports help us recognize and value our common goals and struggles

If there ever was a favor that our current generation owes history, it would be to learn from it, and not repeat the evils of the past. We know how not so many years ago (100 years) education was used as a way to segregate and discriminate among people. Today, however, it’s a human right and a means to be free. The same thing should apply to sports on our campuses. When students compete and sweat together, lasting bonds are created. These bonds form a cohesive society that yearns to improve the quality of life.

Human struggles are part of life and perhaps there has never been an era and a people better equipped to deal with some of these struggles. Today’s main struggle is mental health, especially among young students in college. One of the common ways to deal with mental health is to share your experience with others. There is no better place for this to happen than in a sports setting.

  1. There are clear physical and mental benefits

Studies have shown that there are clear health benefits from engaging in sports and exercise. These benefits apply to both the body and the mind. Thanks to these studies, we now know that exercise can help alleviate anxiety, depression, low self esteem, and above all, help to control body weight. We know how Covid-19 has put a strain on the mental health of students, but even before Covid, the stress brought about by studies was already strenuous enough.

Thanks to sports training, you can now both be in good shape and develop in your studies. As you take a break from homework or coursework to exercise, your mind gets a chance to regenerate. However, if you have too much tasks to take a break or exercise, you can find cheap research paper writers for professional help. This will not only help you get your body and mind in shape, but it will also boost your performance in class. Make sure that the professional help you get is not only reliable but efficient as well.

  1. Sports fitness can benefit the mind for studying

As much as being in a classroom is all about exercising your mind, a lot of it can also happen outside the class. One of the most effective ways to keep your brain healthy is to engage in physical exercise. This is easy if you engage in running sports, swimming, and even weightlifting. If you want your mind to be fully engaged in your studies, you have to find a way of balancing sports and classwork. At the end of the day taking a fitness break can help you get back to that paper with a deadline or increase your focus to complete that long-overdue group project.

  1. Your sports group can be a family away from home

Family is a very important aspect of any society. A society that wisely invests in improving the quality of the family is guaranteed to be successful. In sports, teams that perform well and even go on to win championships are known to work together collectively. It’s not unusual to hear a coach say “we are a family, we do everything together”. This collectiveness contributes to a sense of belonging for students who participate in sports. This can greatly improve the overall mental health of any student.

Sports in a way can also help give a student a sense of identity. In some countries, sports talent has great value. For example, in America, some parents are more proud of a child who can play football than one who can describe the Pythagorean theorem.

  1. Sports and exercise can help to maintain a healthy daily routine

Students who find time to exercise also tend to have a daily routine. This routine not only helps to get things done at school, but it also helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Today many students on campus face a lot of pressure. If you didn’t know, just check out how many teenagers are affected by stress and anxiety. Students who exercise use that time to gather their thoughts. The break, however small it may be, can greatly help in maintaining a healthy daily schedule.

Conclusion

In an age where there is so much pressure placed on individuals to do well, a healthy distraction can be just the thing you need to get away from it all. For students, the pressure can lead to poor performance and worse, an unhealthy lifestyle that extends all the way into their adult lives. Sports can be a great way to ensure that as a student your life takes a positive shape.
