Mandya: Incidents of burglars stealing money from a temple hundi (offering box) and burgling two houses has been reported at Hosaholalu village, K.R. Pet taluk in Mandya district last night.
The burglars, who struck Sri Kalikamba Kamteshwari Temple, decamped with cash by breaking open the hundi and also broke into the houses of Shekar and Rangaswamy, located near to the temple and made away with gold ornaments and cash.
K.R. Pet Police, who visited the spot, conducted mahazar and have registered a case.
Temple Hundi looting is less of a concern compared to the 2 other houses that were looted! An RTI on how the money collected in temple hundi is being spent revealed that less than one percent money was spent on improvement of infrastructure of temples or any real social causes that the devotees intended in the first place. Over 99 percent of that money was spent in Government’s “Secular” programs that could influence the vote bank in their favor! So, in many social media sites advise the devotees NOT to put money in any temple Hundi but rather donate it to beggars or any needy person who is truly deserving, rather than letting the government decide how to “use” your money!
So, as far as the hundi burglary is concerned, that money was waiting to be burgled one way or the other. May be, the buglers are more deserving than the government’s favorites!
