We too feel sad when our teams have to shift the dead bodies of accident victims: S. Jahnavi

Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Crime and Traffic) S. Jahnavi has warned motorists that jumping traffic signals often results in accidents, sometimes fatal. She was speaking at a traffic awareness programme at Hindustan College in Vidyaranyapuram this morning.

Jahnavi said that many people seem to derive pleasure from breaking the law. They enjoy overspeeding, jumping signals and reckless driving. They even share stories of how they have hoodwinked the Police as heroic acts. She said that this is a false sense of bravado.

Jahnavi said that accidents do not bring any joy to anyone. The Police also feel sad when they have to shift the bodies of accident victims. She reiterated that violating traffic rules is no heroism. Motorists should not feel happy at escaping at the moment of violation, as they will be caught at some point in time later, the DCP said.

She said that everyone should have a feeling for shelling out hard-earned money for payment of fines, which they can avoid by following traffic rules and regulations.

ACP (Traffic) Parashuramappa said that such traffic awareness programmes are beneficial to youths. He stressed the need for the public to follow traffic rules and regulations. He said that everyone should understand that traffic rules are meant for the welfare of motorists and not the Police.

Devaraja Traffic Police Inspector N. Muniyappa cautioned people against lending their vehicles to strangers and to those aged below 18 years of age. He said that having a valid driving licence is essential for driving/riding vehicles on roads. He asked the people to be wary of traffic rules and follow them for their own safety.

A video on traffic awareness was played on the occasion. College Principal Dr. C.J. Priya, Gandhadagudi Foundation’s Aryan, Sushma, Raghunandan and others were present.
