‘Mysore Vasudevacharya Memorial Music Festival’ concludes

Mysore/Mysuru: Noted Veena Maestro Dr. R. Visweswaran said that patronisation and promotion of music has made it much richer.

He was speaking at the valedictory of the 3-day ‘Mysore Vasudevacharya Memorial Music Festival’ organised by Karnataka Shastriya Sangeetha Okkoota Trust at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road in the city recently.

Lauding the organisers for honouring music achievers, R. Visweswaran said that the launch of Revathi Kamath Charitable Trust, which is dedicated to the field of music, is a good development. Music lovers should promote music in a big way, he added.

Vidwan Sringeri Nagaraj was conferred ‘Vasudevacharya Samsmarana’ award, while Vidwan H.K. Narasimhamurthy was conferred ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award and Vidushi Pushpa Srinivas was conferred ‘Karnataka Sangeethacharya’ award on the occasion.

Speaking after receiving the award, Vidwan Sringeri Nagaraj said Vasudevacharya’s achievement in the music field and his contribution to Karnatak Music is enormous.

Pointing out that Vasudevacharya served as a Court Musician (Asthana Vidwan) during the times of erstwhile Mysore kings Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, he said that the Acharya is credited with the creation of more than 200 music genre.

“Vasudevacharya was the music guru of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar. The erstwhile Mysore ruler used to turn to Vasudevacharya for suggestions regarding his musical works,” he said.

Bemoaning that Vasudevacharya’s residence has now turned commercial, Nagaraj wanted the authorities to convert the great musician’s residence into a ‘House of Music.’

Musicians Deepa Rao, S. Chaitra, K. Sridevi Das, C.S. Shreya, Tanmayee Kishore, Tanushri S. Chinmayi and  Niranjani R. Bhargava presented a vocal concert based on Vasudevacharya’s compositions.

They were accompanied by Tandavamurthy on violin, Sai Shivu on mridanga and Shamith on ghata.

Also, Vidushi Mysore Rajalakshmi presented a veena concert which enthralled the gathering. She was accompanied by H.L. Shivashankaraswamy on mridanga and M.R. Manjunath on ghata.

Revathi Kamat Charitable Trust Founder Revathi Kamat, music critic Dr. Rama Bennur, Journalist A.R. Raghuram, Bhramara Trust Managing Trustee Madhuri Thathachari, R.S. Nandakumar, Anoor Anantha Krishna and others were present.
