Mysuru: In an unusual administrative lapse, over 200 students of Yuvaraja’s College in Mysuru are facing uncertainty as the dispatch of their Transfer Certificates (TCs) has been delayed due to a shortage of postal stamps. The delay has affected students who have secured admissions to various institutions for higher studies, with several colleges now demanding TCs for admission formalities.
As per Government regulations, TCs cannot be handed over directly to students and must be sent to the respective colleges by post upon receiving official requests. However, Yuvaraja’s College has been unable to send the documents, citing non-availability of postal stamps — a situation that has persisted for over three months since results were announced.
Affected students, caught in a bind, approached University of Mysore (UoM) Registrar M.K. Savitha, to raise the issue. Expressing her displeasure, the Registrar reportedly called Yuvaraja’s College Principal Prof. S. Mahadeva Murthy and questioned why the issue was not brought to her notice earlier. She directed the Principal to take immediate action and ensure the dispatch of the pending TCs.
Speaking to reporters, Prof. Mahadeva Murthy clarified that a cheque for Rs. 10,000 submitted for purchasing postal stamps was returned, preventing them from acquiring the stamps in time. “Now that we have received the stamps, the TCs will be dispatched shortly,” he assured. Meanwhile, a staff member from the college stated that TCs are issued only after verifying that students have no pending dues with departments such as library or laboratories. “The delay is partly due to this internal verification process,” he added.
Students, however, remain anxious as prolonged wait has put their admissions at risk and placed them in an uncomfortable position with their new colleges.
