Mysore/Mysuru: Retired professor of St. Philomena’s College, Prof. C.V. Sridharamurthy, expressed concern over the declining interest among citizens in reading books and watching plays. He emphasised the need to adapt to changing priorities to revive engagement in literature and theatre.

He was speaking at a book release function organised by Sri Nataraja Pratishtana, Mysuru, Ananya Pustakagalu and Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota, Mysuru at Nataraja Bhavan in the city. Three books authored by retired Physical Education Director C. Chamashetty — ‘Chaturvidha Natakagalu’, ‘Negilayogi Mattu Itara Natakagalu’ and ‘Kavyalahari’ — were released.

Prof. Sridharamurthy remarked, “Mahatma Gandhi once said books are a person’s true friends, and this remains relevant. If literary works and plays cease due to lack of interest, it will create a cultural void. I commend the publisher for releasing three books despite such challenges.”

He urged writers and artistes to remain optimistic and continue their creative endeavours while adapting to contemporary trends.

Prof. Morabada Mallikarjuna, Director, College Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, praised Chamashetty’s contributions to society.

“Chamashetty has utilised his talents for the greater good. His students have excelled in State and national-level sports, and late actor Dr. Rajkumar appreciated his sports training in Singanallur,” he said noting that Chamashetty’s two mythological and socially relevant dramas reflect a sportsman’s spirit.

Prof. S. Shivarajappa (Special Officer, Sri Nataraja Pratishtana), M. Chandrashekar (President, Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota), poetess Kerodi Lolakshi, writer Chamashetty and Publisher D.N. Lokappa were present on the occasion.
