A musical offering from Russia on Feb. 16

Mysore/Mysuru: City’s Kalpa Kshetra is hosting a musical offering by Russian musicians Alexey and Anna Filatov at its auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, on Feb. 16 at 6 pm.  

Artistes’ Profiles: Alexey and Anna Filatov, the young musical duo, hail from Russia. Trained in music and literature since their childhood, they write their own lyrics, compose the music and perform widely in Russia. Their musical performances are notable for their lyrical melodies. They sing as the duo “Beyond Time” (“Vne Vremeni” in Russian) under the stage names of Aert (Alexey) and Alean (Anna). They visit India regularly, travelling and singing, drawing inspiration and guidance from places they visit and people they meet.

In their own words they say, “We want to share our songs with you. We perform our own songs in Russian with a guitar, as well as improvisations with ethnic flutes. (Alexei – guitar, Anna – flute, piano).” 

Anna, who studied Tamil at Moscow State University, has earned an M.A. in Tamil and speaks it fluently. The concert in city here will be held in Russian and Tamil. 

City resident Dr. Kamakshi Mohanraj is organising the event. Dr. Kamakshi did her Russian studies at JNU, New Delhi, in 1965. She then went to Moscow State University in 1967, where she earned her MA degree and later got her Ph.D from Brown University, USA, in 1975. She taught Russian language and literature for over 20 years at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) and now residing in the city.  The event is open to public.
