Abuse of freedom of speech: Mysore Varsity Syndicate warns Professors

July 6, 2017

Mysuru: The University of Mysore Syndicate has in a strong message warned the Professors and staff of the University not to cross the line in the name of freedom of speech and expression, while expressing their opinion about the leaders of the country using un-Parliamentary language.

This decision was taken at the Syndicate meeting following the alleged use of singular language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders in the State, in a public meeting by a Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Since there was uproar by various organisations against the Professor, the Syndicate took serious view of this and took a decision. The Syndicate has directed the Professors and others to think twice before they say anything in public that would bring down the dignity of the University.

In spite of the warning of the University, if the Professors repeatedly continue to abuse others in the name of freedom of the speech, action will be taken against them according to the University rules.

They will be demoted, salary will be cut and disciplinary action will be initiated against them, said Registrar Bharati to the media.

Also, the outsiders staying in the University Hostels illegally have been asked to leave and a ban has been imposed in the Hostels coming under the University precincts for such people to stay, she said.

On the directions of the Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, Cauvery water for drinking purpose is being supplied to all the Hostels, said Bharati.
