Tailor-made programmes cater to diverse age groups and subjects, kindling interest in anthropology

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru’s Anthropological Museum at Bogadi Second Stage under the purview of the Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI), has transformed into a vibrant and immersive educational destination, drawing many school students in just a few months.

Previously celebrated for its extensive collection of cultural artefacts, the Museum has reinvented itself as a dynamic learning space, enhancing the academic experiences of students from various educational institutions by delving into the ‘Saga of Man in Time and Space.’

Once solely a repository of anthropological treasures, the Museum has reshaped its mission by collaborating with local schools to offer interactive educational programmes, complemented by engaging visits, documentary screenings and Museum quizzes.

Students are now able to delve into the world of anthropology through hands-on activities, guided tours and interactive sessions conducted within the Museum’s premises. This transformation has effectively turned the Anthropological Museum into a captivating and experiential extension of the classroom.

In recent months, the Anthropological Museum has witnessed a remarkable surge in school visits, with an impressive number of students participating. This surge signifies a significant milestone in the Museum’s journey toward becoming an educational destination, according to Dr. Banita Behera, the Museum’s in-charge and Curator.

Dr. Mithun Sikdar, the Head of Office for the AnSI, stated that the influx of students into the Museum has surpassed previous records, underscoring the resounding success of its new approach to education. Teachers and students alike have lauded the Museum’s efforts in creating a distinctive and impactful learning environment for school students.

The Museum’s commitment to this educational endeavour has led to the development of tailor-made educational programmes that cater to diverse age groups and subjects, thereby enhancing students’ understanding of anthropology, both in terms of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
