Art for change: Gang rape as protest painting theme

August 30, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Reflecting the public sentiments and outrage over the gang rape incident and underlining the demand for capital punishment for the accused, students of city-based Ravivarma Art Institute, Rahul Manohara and Sumanth Gowda, ‘protest’ painted the walls on Dewan’s Road with an eye-catching image.

The painting ‘RAPE’ with the silhouette images of rapists hanging down from each letters is proving to be an eye-ball grabber. An image of a girl with her head ducked is also painted alongside to portray the trauma and agony suffered by the victim.

Only black paint has been used to denote the anguish mixed with tragedy. The wall has been painted to send the message that a shocking event of the year must not be forgotten and the criminals must be brought to book. The painting also seems to send out a message that rapes and assaults against women paint an ugly picture of Mysuru.
