The counting of votes for South West Teachers and South West Graduates constituencies too were taken up at Maharani’s College. These Constituencies comprises of Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikkamangaluru and parts of Davangere districts.

Ayanur Manjunath of BJP won from South West Graduates Constituency, defeating his nearest rival S.P. Dinesh by a huge margin of over 9,000 votes. This victory was special for the BJP, as the party emerged victorious after the first round of counting itself.

A total of 47,171 votes were polled in the Constituency and the quota for victory was set at 21,526 votes, after leaving invalid and NOTA votes.

Manjunath bagged 25,250 votes after the counting of first preference votes and he was declared the winner, leaving his nearest rival S.P. Dinesh of the Congress who bagged 16,157 votes, far behind. The JD(S) candidate Arun Kumar fared poorly coming a distant third with just 1,342 votes. The Constituency saw the highest numbers of invalid votes — 3,999.

In the South West Teachers Constituency, S.L. Bhojegowda of the JD(S) emerged victorious after defeating his nearest rival Capt. Ganesh Karnik of the BJP, who is a sitting MLC.

Bhojegowda maintained his lead from first round of counting itself. But as none of the candidates reached quota figure of 7,846 votes, the counting of second and subsequent preference of votes was taken up. Ultimately, after the counting of all the rounds were completed, Bhojegowda                       of the JD(S) who bagged a total of 8,647 votes was declared the winner.

BJP’s Capt. Ganesh Karnik came second, while Manjunath Kumar of Congress, who got eliminated after the tenth round of counting, eventually came third.

With this loss, BJP’s Ganesh Karnik’s dreams of making it into a hat-trick into the Legislative Council was shattered.

The South West Teachers Constituency saw 16,479 votes cast. The total number of valid votes stood at 15,707 after 16 NOTA and 772 invalid votes were rejected.
