Brijesh accuses Centre for altering GDP figures

June 10, 2017

Mysuru: Denouncing the demonetisation policy of the Union Government, AICC spokesperson and Supreme Court advocate Brijesh Kalappa said the country was facing the worst economic crisis with trade and commerce witnessing a sharp decline.

Addressing mediapersons at Jaladarshini Guest House, here this morning, Kalappa alleged that Narendra Modi led NDA Government had altered the GDP calculation method only to project inflated figures.

Claiming that the country’s GDP was 10.9 per cent when Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh left office in 2014, he said that the GDP has come down to 6.1 per cent, which is of grave concern.

Lashing out at Modi for failure to create two crore jobs as promised during the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls,Brijesh said the Telecom and IT sectors were the worst hit post-demonetisation, with lakhs of employees losing their jobs.

Ridiculing BJP State President B.S. Yeddyurappa’s visit to Dalit homes, he said that the BJP leaders have developed a new found love for the Dalits, who were ignored by the BJP when it was in power.

Coming down heavily on the Madhya Pradesh Police firing on agitating farmers, that claimed the life of seven farmers, he alleged that the farmers were brutally done to death.

Asserting that farmers’ suicide was increasing by the day under Modi’s rule, he said that Modi’s mantra would not help the BJP win future elections.

Continuing his attack on the Prime Minister, Brijesh said Modi had not bothered to intervene for resolving the burning Cauvery and Mahadayi river sharing rows.

Brijesh wondered why the Centre had given premium for Additional Solicitor General Athmanand Nadkari to plead on behalf of Goa in Mahadayi Water row.

Ridiculing BJP’s ‘Mission-150’, he said that post Nanjangud and Gundlupet bypolls, this mission had turned out to be ‘mission-50’, as the BJP had no chance of coming to power. City Congress President R. Murthy, District President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar, leaders Basavaraja Naik and Deepak Raj were present.
