Mysuru: Close on the heels of serial burglaries reported at houses in Vijayanagar yesterday, a similar incident of miscreants making away with gold jewellery and silver articles worth about Rs. 20 lakh has been reported in city, this morning.
Police said that burglars had entered Vardhaman Jewellers and Bankers, located in Bharath Seva Dal building, opposite Maruthi Temple in T.K. Layout, by burrowing the wall behind the shop and made away with valuables kept in the showcase. However, the burglars failed in their attempt to open the safe where jewellery worth around Rs. 3 crore was kept.
Police examined the CCTV footages recorded from cameras installed at Sai Electricals on Sahukar Chennaiah Road and found that three suspected miscreants, who came in two different bikes, had entered the building gate located next to the electrical shop in the early hours of today at around 2.30 am. The Police are also examining the CCTV camera footages from cameras installed at former MLA late H.S. Shankaralingegowda’s residence on the same road.
Vikram, the owner of the jewellery shop, had locked the shutters, after closing his business on Aug. 26 (Saturday).
However, the shop was not opened yesterday since it was a holiday.
The theft came to light this morning after Vikram opened the shop only to find the showcase empty. Soon, he informed Saraswathipuram Police who arrived at the spot and conducted mahazar.
ACP (KR Division) Dharmappa, Inspector Nagegowda, City Finger Print ACP Rajashekara and Fingerprint Sub-Inspector Appaji Gowda conducted the mahazar. City Dog Squad was also pressed into service.
Saraswathipuram Police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating.
Why are you mentioning the details about the CCTV cameras, where they are present and which ones are being used. I don’t see any much point in that being part of the news, wouldn’t it make sense for the police also to keep it a secret rather than divulging the details.
