Cancer detection and awareness camp at St. Philomena’s College

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of its Oak Jubilee Year, St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Bannimantap, Mysuru, had organised a Cancer (Breast & Uterus) Detection and Awareness Camp for women students and staff to mark World Cancer Day at a programme held at the Bishop Rene Feuga Memorial Chapel Hall here recently.

The camp was jointly conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross (YRC) and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college in collaboration with Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology, Mysuru.

Medical experts from the hospital — Dr. Sahana Ganesh and Dr. Shwethambari — guided the participants through awareness sessions, early-detection methods and preventive care, emphasising the importance of regular screening and timely medical consultation.

A special screening was carried out at the Ladies Lounge, for more than 100 students, faculty and support staff of the institution.

Ronald Prakash Cutinha, Vice-Principal (Administration), presided. L. Johnson Arulraj (NSS), M.J. Deepthi (YRC), C. Mathew (R&R), Dr. V. Deepa (IQAC) and A. Thomas Gunaseelan (IQAC), coordinated the smooth conduct of the screening activities and interactions.

J. Willam Joseph of English Department and B. Kavitha of Commerce Department hosted the event which created strong awareness about women’s health and cancer prevention, reinforcing the institution’s role in promoting social responsibility and well-being in the community.
