Mysore/Mysuru: The Catholic Association of Mysore (CAM) ushered in the spirit of Christmas by organising the 21st Diocesan carol singing competition at St. Philomena’s College Indoor Stadium recently.
The event began with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration (Holy Mass) by the Bishop of Mysore, Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao SJ.
The day-long competition was formally inaugurated by Bishop Serrao, who extended his blessings and Christmas greetings to all. In his message, the Bishop said, God became man to dwell among humanity and elevate mankind to divinity. He reminded the gathering that humans are created in the image of God and are “little less than God.”
He wished that the Babe of Bethlehem bring hope, peace, love and happiness during Christmas and the year ahead.
More than 85 teams participated across five categories — Schools (VIII to XII), Colleges, Parishes, Professionals and Institutional Staff — performing carols in English, Kannada and other regional languages. Each team, ranging from 8 to 45 members, was allotted six minutes to present carols. Children added to the festive atmosphere by depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.
Rev. Fr. Lourdu Prasad, Rector of St. Philomena’s College, Rev. Fr. Thomas Baros, Director of St. Joseph Hospital, Rev. Fr. Naveen, Secretary to the Bishop, Joseph Mathew, President, Carmel Catholic Association, Mathew B. Suresh, President, CAM and Premanand D’Mello, Secretary, CAM, were on the dais during the inaugural event.
