Mysuru: Mysuru-based Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) launched its indigenously developed agrotechnology superfood ‘Teff’ in Bengaluru yesterday.

‘Teff’, being a drought resistant crop, has the capacity to yield 200 to 250 kg per acre and can been grown in both Kharif and Rabi seasons. The crop is considered to be most suitable for dry areas in Karnataka.

According to sources, the Teff crop is rich in micronutrients like Calcium, Iron and Vitamin C and blend with cuisines such as rotis, gluten-free breads, dosas and others. The institute has signed a MoU with Sri Sri Rural Development Programme to support the farmers in production of superfood and also in farm gate food processing. CFRTI also plans to conduct workshops to sensitise farmers from across the State to help develop recipes for Teff. It may be recalled that the institute had recently announced the agrotechnologies developed for chia and quiona superfoods grown in Indian conditions.
